12:11a - I don't need to improve my writing, because it's only a hobby
What do you mean, "only"? by Rusalka. April 23, 2003. http://www.livejournal.com/users/marinarusalka/46120.html
Okay, this isn't exactly avant-garde of me, but I'v e been thinking about an argument that shows up regularly in discussions about fanfic: "I don't need to get a beta/use spellcheck/accept constructive criticism/do anything whatsoever to improve my writing, because it's only a hobby."
Now, I have a number of non-writing, non-fannish hobbies. So do most of my friends. Among us, we cover a pretty wide range of interests -- everything from knitting to drawing to cooking to photography to ballroom dancing -- and I don't think I've ever heard a practitioner of any hobby other than writing try to justify shoddy work on the grounds that it's only a hobby. 8:50a - GEICO magazine article about libraries
Money Wise: There's Loot at the Library, by Melanie Kellar. GEICO Direct magazine, Spring 2003.
Malcolm Forbes once described the library as a place of "endless, incredible loot," and if you haven't been in one lately, you might be surprised at all that's offered.
Of course, you can find and borrow books, but depending on your locale, you can find books-on-tape, newspapers, magazines, video-tapes, music CDs, DVDs, and more--most for free with your library card.

7:17p - Tony Head not going to Flashback Weekend
Celebrity guest line-up change. Flashback Weekend Buffy event. http://www.geocities.com/flashbackweekend/b_ash.html
Almost every actor's convention appearance contract or agreement includes a clause that states the actor may cancel the convention appearance do to a professional commitment. In this case, Mr. Head received an acting job that requires he be in the UK for filming on the same weekend as our event.
Flashback Weekend was also looking forward to Mr. Head's appearance and we are disappointed at the cancellation. However, we understand that Mr. Head is a popular actor, and that his acting career must come first. We would like to thank the attendees for understanding as well.
We are looking forward to inviting Mr. Head to a future Flashback Weekend BUFFY Fan event. e
