BOSTON (AP) -- Dr. Jerri Nielsen FitzGerald, who diagnosed and treated her own breast cancer before a dramatic rescue from the South Pole a decade ago, has died after the disease recurred. She was 57.

Her husband, Thomas FitzGerald, said she died Tuesday at their home in Southwick, Mass. Her cancer had been in remission until it returned in August 2005

This year's Doctor Who Children In Need special will reportedly bring together all 11 Doctors for the first time in the show's history. The 15-minute episode, to be screened in November, will include the first appearance by brand new Doctor Matt Smith, reports the Daily Mirror. The first three Doctors, played by deceased actors William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee, will appear thanks to the use of footage from the BBC's archives.

Recurring tasks?

At work, we're migrating from Outlook to Rackspace. Problem is, Rackspace doesn't do recurring tasks. I have lots of them (weekly, monthly, every two months, quarterly, every second Monday). Any ideas for what I could use? A co-worker has looked into various online options for herself and is about to settle on "lo-fi" (e.g., index cards, hipster pda). Hipster PDA looks good to me, too.

If shopping was always as easy as today's, I would do it more often and wouldn't dread it so. Total haul in 2 hours of driving: socks, shoes, jeans, watch, meds, and gasoline.

Also: I continue to love Mast's Shoes. I told the guy I wanted another pair of shoes just like the ones I was wearing (which I bought there last year). He identified them immediately (link (mine are black). While I was trying out the new pair, he disappeared into the back with my old shoes. When he came back, it turned out he had *polished my old shoes.* Yes, really.

Now that I've watched the Star Trek movie (LOVED IT!), I'm spending quite a while reading LJ entries I couldn't read before. Fun.

But everyone's talking about Kirk and Spock and Uhura and sometimes McCoy and no one's talking about Scotty. In TOS, my favorites were McCoy and Scotty (but especially McCoy). In nuTrek (is that what we're calling it?), my first-impression favorite is Scotty.

Are there any nuTrek icons around?
